COSTUME INFORMATION

HOLIDAY SHOW COSTUMES ARE DISTRIBUTED AT DRESS REHEARSAL WHEN YOUR DANCER CHECKS IN FOR THEIR FIRST DANCE. LABELED COSTUME BAGS AND LABELED HANGERS ARE RETURNED AFTER THE FINAL PERFORMANCE. DO NOT BRING THE COSTUMES HOME. ACCOUNTS WILL BE CHARGED FOR LOST, DAMAGED, OR UNRETURNED COSTUMES AND ACCESSORIES.

Female dancers must wear their black camisole leotard from NIMBLY as the base for their holiday costumes. Male dancers need a black tank-style undershirt (Hanes is fine) and dark, boxer briefs.

  • SHOES: Dancers must have required shoes from NIMBLY

  • LABEL ALL SHOES (ON THE INSIDE) WITH YOUR DANCER’S NAME!

  • TIGHTS: ALL classes wear the same tights on stage for continuity. RISE uses stir-up tights for these shows to accommodate quick changes for students in multiple classes.

  • Ballet classes wear the assigned pink tights.

*TIGHTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED WITH COSTUMES ON DRESS REHEARSAL DAY.

IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING YOUR ASSIGNED COSTUME RENTAL BAG:

  • ALL COSTUME BAGS MUST be returned intact, the same as you received it, with name labels and all inventory inside.

  • Post-show, leave costume bags in the designated costume area and hang all costumes that have a hanger on the designated clothing hanger. You must do this after your dancer has finished their last performance. Do not take costumes home; they are inventoried after the show.
A fee will be charged if costumes are not returned.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parent involvement is essential to the success of our shows!  The supervision, safety, and assistance that parents provide helps our staff focus on keeping the production moving smoothly and allows all dancers to relax and give their best performance. The contract you signed at registration included a waiver asking that EVERY FAMILY be involved in at least one show. If you cannot volunteer, please offer a babysitter, another family member, or a family friend, in your place.

Class Moms are where we need the most help and can be assigned to classes other than their child’s.  When parents help with shows their dancer is not involved in, it makes it possible for other parents to sit in the audience and enjoy seeing their child on stage.  This group effort supports everyone! PLEASE sign up as soon as possible so we can know that our cast will have the support it needs.

CLASS MOMS

  • Arrive 1.5 hours before curtain.

  • Stay with their assigned class for the duration of the show and assist with changing dancers into costumes should their dancers be in more than one number.

  •  Works with other class moms to keep their class together and know where their dancers are at all times.

  • Make sure dancers are stage ready: shoes tied, hair slick, lipstick on, no jewelry, no hair elastics on wrists, headpieces secure with pins, no holes in tights, no nail polish, and costumes complete.

  • Work with RISE staff to ensure dancers are lined up, in the correct order, and quiet.

  • Watch their dancers perform from the wings.

  • Prepare dancers for the bow.

  • Help keep the dressing rooms neat and tidy.

  • Costumes must be set in the order they will be used. All shoes should be untied and open.

  • Please remember the Holding Pen is 5 deep meaning your group must be backstage 5 numbers before they perform (many stations will have students trickling in due to quick changes).

  • Watch dancers until a female parent/guardian comes backstage to get their child.

SECURITY

  • Monitor all backstage personnel.

  • Keep all stage doors shut during the show.

  • Direct latecomers to lobby manager.

  • Make sure students do not enter the lobby area before or during the show.

  • No dads are allowed in the dressing room area.

STAGE PREPARATION (ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME)

  • SET UP: On the Friday before the show, the RISE staff, older students, and parents meet at the high school and prepare the stage set.  Time: 2:30PM

  • BREAK DOWN: Immediately after the 4PM performance, we strike the stage and packs the show set for next year.

STAGE MAKEUP TUTORIAL

This video is a great guide; however, young dancers do not need eyeliner on the lower lid. Mascara is enough.
Lipstick color: Raspberry Red

Makeup creates a clear face from a distance with stage lights — We want you to see your dancer’s face when they perform!

FEMALE DANCERS: Foundation or pressed powder (optional for young dancers), blush, mascara, brow pencil (light brows only), neutral eye shadows (taupes, grays/plums, and a white highlighter for brown bone) raspberry lipstick (not gloss).

MALE DANCERS: Foundation or pressed powder (optional), blush, brow pencil (light brows only, optional), chapstick with a reddish tint.

BUN TUTORIAL

No part; slicked back with gel and hairspray middle bun— flatter to the head rather than sticking out (no cone buns). Please wrap with a bun wrap/hairnet to hide flyaways.
